Violent Images Are Haunting Us
Dear Layla Jones,
After reading your article, “How viral police shooting videos can mess with your mental health”, I strongly agree with the information that you presented and I certainly feel that images of violence shouldn’t be displayed and that they are harming our health physically and mentally. Being a parent myself, I personally do not want my children looking at such graphic images, I don’t want my innocent children to grow up with disturbing images that will haunt them for life. One quote from your article that stood out to me was, “I would not want my loved ones, if I was murdered by cops, to have to constantly relive that murder.” I think that viewing tragic events from the past through images constantly remind us of the tragedy, and if my poor children are continuously reminded of the terrible things from the past it will mentally and physically exhaust them. In addition, I also thought the two tweets you included really helped enforce the argument that violent images are harming us. For me, I agreed with the tweet shown below. Some people say that these graphic images are spreading awareness, but overall they are traumatizing us. Even if they are spreading awareness, I wouldn’t want my kids to have to wake up and look at disturbing images on the news which will then be engraved in their tiny minds. Essentially, for some people these violent images can be too disturbing and they shouldn’t be displayed, especially to younger audiences like children. Ultimately, I stand by your position that violent images harm people physically and mentally.

I like that this letter is to the articles author. The use of the tweet to add to your argument, from the real world. Also using your children as a way to appeal emotionally really makes it stronger.
