I Love School!
My first two weeks of senior year have been worse than my entire junior year. I partly blame myself. But I honestly don’t care. It all started with summer reading. Like most people, I waited until the last week to complete all the assignments. In fact, I didn’t even realize The Alchemist was a required read. I was off to a flying start! Along with summer reading, I had an AP Spanish packet I had to finish and for some reason I had a lot of work in my other classes too. I thought this year was going to be a lot easier than junior year. Again, I do partially blame myself for procrastinating. But like I said, I really don’t care.
The first two weeks were filled with homework, yelling, more homework, and more yelling. I love school! I remember I came back from a late soccer practice and I ended up staying up until 3 am doing five hours of homework. Thanks to Mr. Zynda and his module assignments that take hours. They don’t look difficult but for some odd reason they take way too long. I went to bed that day with a bright smile on my face thinking in my head, “I love getting 2 hours of sleep!” I felt like I was going insane. My head was going to explode. In addition to my other assignments, I still had to do the worst of them all. Summer reading. I dreaded this moment so much to the point where I actually read all of The Alchemist the day before the in class essay. The first two weeks of school I probably averaged at least 3 to 4 hours of sleep a day. Pretty healthy right. As I’m staying up late doing more homework and writing this blog 30 minutes before it’s due I feel like headbutting someone or something like Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final.
What did I learn from these painful first two weeks? School is more important than sleep! On a serious note, I probably should focus on getting my school work done more efficiently. It’s definitely easier said than done, but it’s important for me to hold myself accountable and to work hard. I also believe maintaining a good balance between soccer and school will help with my procrastination. I have to learn to prioritize getting homework done over soccer or other things I would rather do. Ultimately, I need to push myself to get school work done even if I constantly tell myself that I’ll do it later. Doing this will hopefully improve my amount of sleep.
